In the beginning God ...

Scripture Readings

Everything great in life begins with God. This New Year holds such great potential and hope, because of God. This new bible reading adventure holds such grace and perspective for us, because of God.

As he created the wonder of this world, so he continues to do new and beautiful things in and through our lives. He is the God who makes all things new and infuses all things with hope and mercy. The pinnacle of his creation was us! We are made in his image, meaning we are created with capacity to think, feel and choose, and we need to use those capacities to promote his purposes in our lives.

I love how God concluded each of his wonders of creation with “it was good!” So many people feel worthless, invisible and unvalued, and we have the glorious privilege of letting them know that God loves them beyond imagination!

We may struggle and lose our way, but our loving God always draws us back to himself. Included in Jesus’ genealogy from Matthew 1 were four women who had all, at some point, lost their way. But they were gloriously redeemed and restored, and became integral parts of God’s grand redemptive plan. Our lives have value. Our lives have purpose!

If anyone might have doubted the goodness of God’s plans and purposes, it would have been Joseph as he tried to navigate the complexities his fiancé’s Spirit-initiated pregnancy. How do you explain that to your parents? Your friends? Your Rabbi? But God stepped in and counselled Joseph to trust and follow. Great blessing comes to those who choose to wait, trust, hope and believe. To those who “delight in the law of the Lord and meditate on his law day and night.” (Ps. 1:2)

May this New Year be filled with much delight, spiritual renewal and fruitfulness. It is going to be a fantastic year, buckle up and lean in!
