Scripture Readings

Today's scriptures deal with a few real difficult subjects. Significant (if not massive) personal loss, divorce and less-than-faithful friends. But the readings are 'book-ended' by two thoughts of encouragement for us all. As David is delivered from his enemies and the hand of Saul, the shepherd boy says, "My strength, my foundation, my refuge, my deliverer, my helper, my champion, my protector ... I will call upon the Lord and praise him". And then Jesus welcomes the little children, highlighting their faith. "For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children." (Matthew 5:14, New Living Translation) So often, amid life's difficulties, we search for reasons, justifications and explanations. Yet our perspective is so limited, and we seldom can resolve these questions by our own means to any level of satisfaction. Perhaps we need to take a simple view, like that of a child and trust in his leading. I love music and am often inspired by a song for several months. Recently, the song of my mind and heart has been 'Goodness of God' by Bethel music, today's readings brought my attention again to the words of this song: I love You, Lord, for your mercy never fails me All my days, I've been held in your hands From the moment that I wake up, until I lay my head Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God And all my life you have been faithful And all my life you have been so, so good With every breath that I am able Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God I love your voice - you have led me through the fire In the darkest night You are close like no other I've known you as a father - I've known you as a friend And I have lived in the goodness of God And all my life you have been faithful And all my life you have been so, so good With every breath that I am able Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God The song ends with the truth that the goodness of God is running after us - literally chasing us! Even in the difficult moments of life, he is the God who pursues a relationship with us! Will you join me in worshipping him today? Listen to the song here: https://youtu.be/n0FBb6hnwTo.
