Then the Lord

Scripture Readings

A talking donkey, fruit – a ripe Kelowna peach, not Calgary green, logs, sawdust, specks – carpenter’s workshop, foundationless houses, floods, disasters, and catastrophe. The blind falling into pits. Loving enemies, giving away shirts (does it have to be my favourite one?) Offering rams and bulls – where would I find those?

Do whatever the Lord says? What if it’s hard? Have you seen my enemies? Do you know what they tried to do to me? “They are wicked, Lord, they truly lie in wait for me!”

I got up in the morning, caught my bus, and then the Lord ...

I was walking down the hallway and then the Lord …

I had a plan and then the Lord …

I knew what I was doing and then the Lord …

Oh dear, Lord!

The Lord speaking through donkeys, analogies, stories, parables, dreams, visions, and yes, even sermons. His Word …

Consider Balaam: “Did I not tell you I must do whatever the Lord says?”

Am I under “orders,” too?

Do I represent my “teacher?”

What about the fruit?

“As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice…”

“Must I not speak the words the Lord put in my mouth?” (Here come my enemies …)

“He is their stronghold in time of trouble. The Lord helps them and delivers them …”

I thought I would have it all figured out by now, I thought I would be “settled,” and life would be easier. Maybe we are meant to scramble, question, wonder, persevere, give up and hope again.

“Hope in the Lord.” Maybe, this is what keeps us relying only on him.

Open my eyes! Give me your words to speak. Be my stronghold today.

Where are we going?

“I will go anywhere, Lord, except Calgary.”

Here I am - Foothills Alliance Church Saturday nights; Foothills Hospital Monday to Friday … in Calgary.
